NorthStar Launches Wireless Web Accessible Job Postings

For Immediate Release.  September 29, 2000, Birmingham, Alabama:  NorthStar Communications Group, Inc. (NorthStar) announced today the availability of Wireless Web accessible Job Postings on its corporate website, NorthStar.net.  Job seekers can view listings by location, or search for keywords.  NorthStar is one of the first sites in the United States to enable Job postings for Wireless Web access.

"More than half of our prospective candidates are in the field," commented Bill Johnson, president and CEO of NorthStar, "Our Job postings should be in the field with them.  We have provided parallel content for Web-enabled phones in the United States and abroad, which at present use different technologies.  Whether you're in Birmingham, Alabama or Birmingham, England, you can access the Wireless Web site."

NorthStar's Wireless Web Job Postings can be viewed simply by pointing a Web-enabled cellular phone to northstar.net.  The Job engine is compatible with text-only minibrowsers used in legacy phones, but provides a rich feature set, including fast-loading graphics and enhanced navigation, for newer Web-enabled phones such as the Qualcomm TouchPoint® and Motorola Timeport®.  Simple menus allow the user to find jobs available at NorthStar via a list alphabetized by State / region, or to search the listings for keywords / phrases.  Information on how to apply for available positions is accessible from any listing.

"Our deployment of Wireless Web technology is only part of a larger plan to serve core content from NorthStar.net to every possible Web client," explained Johnson, "whether a cutting-edge Web browser, a legacy browser, a text-to-speech browser for the vision-impaired, a cellphone, WebTV®, or some futuristic device we haven't thought of yet.  We're on the leading edge of Telecommunications technology, and our site reflects that.  Moreover, it would be shortsighted to assume that we can predict how people are going to access and use this information.  We have a prototype for a broadband version of the site targeted only to Internet Explorer® 5 users, which already gets a significant number of page views.  End users have come to expect this level of sophistication, alongside speed and ease of use."

NorthStar, a B E and K company, offers a broad range of communications services, including telecommunications engineering, construction management, project management, E F and I, consulting, and professional staffing.  NorthStar maintains corporate offices in Bellevue, Washington and Birmingham, Alabama, and 93 operations offices across the United States, to support its customers and more than 1,600 employees.
